ï´¾Chapter Fourteen:ï´¿
I feel something move underneath me. I jerk my head up to, find myself starring up at the man holding me, but still holding me close even though he is asleep. It takes me a second to remember where I am. Well, actually I still have no idea where I am, but I'm not scared for a change.
I have no idea how long he has been holding me like this. The fire was blazing when we first came into the room, but it looks like it has been out for quite some time now, even though the room is still warm. I settle back down and look around admiring the tapestries hanging on the walls. They are each exquisite. Some have scenes from other worlds. The others have knights slaying dragons; all of them fairytale like.
I lay my head back down on his chest gently and peek up at Tyberius, what an odd name. It seems so formal; maybe he was born a man of importance. His features were unlike anything I have ever seen. The only flaw I can find is a small scar on his left cheek. I raise my hand up running my hand down it before I can catch myself. His blazing yellow eyes snap open as he gazes down at me.
âHow did you get this?â I blurt out.
He smiles as he re-adjusts me in his lap then rubs his cheek. âI havenât thought about it in years.â
âI'm sorry you donât have to tell me I was just curious.â I start to push off his chest trying to get up. Suddenly, Iâm self-conscious about laying on him so intimately.
âBe at ease Vic, itâs a good memory. My son gave this to me. He always liked to wrestle and roughhouse when he was small. His claws were just emerging and one day he caught my cheek by accident. Itâs probably the one scar I never did mind getting. I remember he got so upset when he realized it was going to mark my face forever. I remember tickling him, telling him no one would mess with his dad now, that this scratch makes me look mean.â
âWhy do I feel like there is a lot to this story youâre not telling me!â
âOh, I have tons to tell you, centuryâs worth actually. To be honest Iâm not used to taking care of anyone. So please forgive me upfront if you need something and I donât think about it ahead of time. I made a choice to keep myself apart from this world. I didnât want to get attached to something or anyone that I couldnât take back with me. Finding you forced me to realize what a mistake that original decision was. You have pushed me out of my shell and I know now that maybe never going home isnât as bad as I thought.â
âMy son was a grown man before I left the planet. He definitely didnât need my guidance or counseling any longer, but there has never been a father more proud of their son than me.
